Colours
We received the Stokke® MyCarrier™ Cool in cream but it is also available in black.
The main difference between the original MyCarrier™ and the MyCarrier™ Cool is the material. This newer version is made from a breathable mesh textile which uses the same technology as a lot of types of sportswear.
This material allows for good airflow around you and your little one. The mesh cleverly wicks away moisture from the body making this carrier perfect for those warm Summer months or for holidays abroad. It is also great for when you are going on long walks with your little one, preventing you or them from overheating.
The mesh is also wind and water resistant, meaning the MyCarrier™ Cool is suitable to use whatever the weather or climate, a real all rounder.
The textiles themselves are Oeko-Tek Standard, 100 class approved and certified free from harmful substances. In simple terms, this means that the textiles do not contain any chemicals which are known to be unhealthy. You can rest assured that the material touching your baby's skin is completely safe!!
I love the feel of the material, it is extremely soft to the touch, not scratchy like other carriers I've tried and I think the mesh makes it seem more lightweight. Comfortable for both parent and child.
My only concern was the colour, although stunning, I was worried about getting the cream fabric dirty. You will be happy to hear that the majority of stains can be removed with a wet cloth and both the front and back carriers can be put in a 40º wash. This certainly put my mind at rest.
As I mentioned earlier, Stokke® really do pay attention to the details, so there are many features on this carrier that you may not notice at first glance.
• Padded shoulder and waist straps which ergonomically designed to provide to upmost support.
• Adjustable straps for both child and parent, ensuring optimal support for both.
• Integrated head support on both front and back carriers, this can also be used as a shade from the sun. The head support on the back carrier can be rolled up and placed in a pocket when not in use.
• Two pockets, one on either side of the waist belt. These are small but a good enough size to pop some keys or a bit of change into.
• Adjustable front carrier, there is a zip at the front which allows the carrier to be made longer when used in front facing position.
• Aluminium support which is placed in the harness when using the back carrier, giving additional support to the parent.
• Adjustable chest strap, this strap can be moved up and down the carrier depending on where the straps sit on your shoulders when using the back carrier.
All these features help towards making sure that both parent and baby have good posture at all times.
The Stokke®MyCarrier™ Cool can be used right from birth up (3.5kg) until your child is around three years old (15kg). It is a 3 in 1 carrier meaning you can carry your child in 3 different positions :
• Front carry facing inwards
• Front carry facing outwards
• Back carry
Stokke® suggest that you can start facing your baby outwards when they are able to confidently hold their head up unaided, a rough guide is around the 4 month mark.
The back carrier can be used once your child can sit unaided and reaches over 72cm/28inches in height.
In all positions your child maintains the "happy hip" position because of the broad seat. This means that your child's knees are kept higher than their hips giving the best support to their back, bum and legs!! I have always maintained that this an important factor when baby wearing so I am pleased to see that Stokke® have taken this into consideration when designing their carrier.
When front carrying, you attach the harness to yourself first, adjust it and then place baby in the carrier. Baby must have their head positioned high on your chest when facing inwards but the adjustable waist on the front carrier stops your baby from sliding down and gives them that much need back support.
When back carrying you place your little one in the back carrier first. Making sure to adjust all straps accordingly. My favourite part about the back carrier is that there are shoulder straps which buckle over your little ones shoulders, this means no worrying about them trying to lean out of the carrier, they are completely secure. Once your baby is in, you then pop the harness on like a back pack and do up the waist and chest straps.
All positions are easy to achieve whether you have been baby wearing for years or if you are just starting out on your baby wearing journey.
The only thing about this carrier that may put some people off is that you need to change the carrier that is attached to the harness depending on whether you want to carry your child on your front or on your back.
Although a tad annoying, it is simple to do so doesn't take up too much time.
The carriers are put onto the harness using zips and double locking carabiners and once attached, are very secure. It took me less than 2 minutes to switch the carriers around.
The adjustability of all the straps means that Stokke® have made sure that the MyCarrier™ Cool will be suitable for any parent of baby no matter what size they are.
I honestly struggle to find anything negative to say about this carrier. Stokke®'s attention to detail has meant that they've made a carrier suitable for every parent and baby. Practical and functional as well as stylish, it is the complete package.
And although not the cheapest carrier on the market, this carrier will see you through from birth up to toddlerhood and beyond.
In my opinion is worth every penny spent on it!!
The one thing I would like to see in the future is for it to be made in a wider variety of colours like the original MyCarrier™.
We give the Stokke® MyCarrier™ Cool 5 out of 5 stars
