Cottage Holidays in the UK – our top picks

For many people, holidaying in the UK is their chosen option. The UK has an awful lot to offer, even though you can’t guarantee the weather of course.

Cottage holidays are great for families. With older children, they have a little more space and freedom, and with younger children, you can put them to bed and enjoy an evening meal in peace with a glass or two of wine.

We took a look at a few of our favourite holiday cottages throughout the UK which are suitable for families.

Jenni’s Cottage – Wells Next the Sea, Norfolk

Sleeps 5 plus cot (provided) - 3 bedrooms

Price – from £495 a week

Set in a quiet village near the popular seaside resort of Wells in North Norfolk, this cottage comes with everything you need to explore the North Norfolk coast with your family, including an all terrain pushchair. The surrounding beaches (Holkham, Brancaster, Wells) are stunning - plenty of room for your little ones to build sand castles. For older children, there is the popular seaside resort of Wells, as well as the Wells and Walsingham Railway nearby for rail enthusiasts. The cottage itself is well equipped with everything you need for two children including travel cot, bed guard, high chair, toys, DVDs and games.

We have stayed in this cottage and are able to recommend personally. Mumii review coming soon.

Bank End Cottage – Ennerdale, Lake District

Sleeps 4 - 2 bedrooms

Price - from £325 a week

The Lake District is a perfect place to escape with children away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Bank Cottage is the ultimate ‘escape’ destination – a place where children can really let off steam outside without disturbing any neighbours. This eco-friendly cottage is ideal for families with two older children and is situated in beautiful countryside. If walking is your thing, then this cottage is worth considering.

Bailey Point Cottage – Wigpool near Drybrook, Forest of Dean

Sleeps 4 - 2 bedrooms

Price from £299 a week

This cottage is a stunning barn conversion on a small holding in the heart of the Forest of Dean. Another great area of the UK to escape to with the family. The open plan layout means that there is plenty of space for your family to ‘be together’ without being on top of each other. As nights draw in and the weather becomes more chilly, there is a log burner to snuggle up in front of.  We love how modern this home-away-from-home is.

Blacksmiths Cottage – Brokenhurst, New Forest

Sleeps 6 plus cot - 3 bedrooms

Price from £625 a week

This charming cottage used to, as the name suggests, house the local Blacksmiths in the quaint village of Brokenhurst. Blacksmith’s Cottage sleeps 6 and is an ideal cottage for a holiday with children and Grandparents....just think of the babysitting! It is modern on the inside but hasn’t lost its charm with its exposed oak beams and cosy log burner. Nestled in an idyllic part of the world yet only 90 mins by train from central London, this cottage is sure to tick lots of boxes.

Cottage holidays are great for families. You can pop your children to bed at what ever time suits, but you still have space to enjoy that all important glass of wine and have a break from reality for yourselves.

Which of these cottages is your favourite?
