About STA

Founded in 1932, STA is a UK registered charity whose objective is:
“The preservation of human life by the teaching of swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques.”

Today with more than 9,000 members and representation in over 30 countries, STA is the world’s largest independent swimming teaching and lifesaving organisation. Working at the forefront of aquatic and safety training, STA teaches many millions of children how to swim and the importance of water safety through its International Learn to Swim Programme (ILSP).

ILSP is the only learn to swim programme that is internationally recognised, and provides the complete progressive aquatic pathway for learners of all ages, starting with the STARFISH and STAnley series of awards for babies and pre-schoolers.
