The new Lexus RX L – a seven-seater car for the whole family

August 16, 2018

For families who often need a car with more than five seats, there’s no need to compromise on style and performance as the brand-new Lexus RX L is now available in the UK, with seven seats on board and a flexible, adaptable interior space to accommodate luggage, shopping, buggies and much more. The new car benefits from the popular Lexus self-charging hybrid 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine, using hybrid technology pioneered by Lexus over 30 years. The system charges the battery while driving, cruising, decelerating and braking, so there’s never a need to plug it into an electrical socket.

The overall length of the RX L is just 110mm greater than the popular five-seat Lexus RX (total length: 5,000mm) but manages to comfortably accommodate a third row of seats. When you need the extra two seats in the rearmost third row – for a family trip or a night out with friends – it is simply a matter of pressing a button to raise them quickly and smoothly into place. It’s the same effortless process when you want the seats stowed flat into the rear floor, increasing the length of the load space to 1,067mm. Every detail has been taken care of: for example, the folding second-row seats have no exposed parts, so there’s no risk of the kids snagging their clothes or tripping when getting in and out. Access to the third row is simple, with one-touch knobs to tilt and slide the second-row seats forward and a footstep on the floor to guide you in.

This functionality is matched by seamless Lexus luxury and omotenashi, the Japanese tradition of hospitality that takes care of the needs and comfort of everyone on board. A tri-zone air conditioning system can be operated by the driver via the central multimedia screen, or by passengers in the back row using controls located to the side of the third-row seats.

An armrest console in the third row also provides two cup holders and two USB ports – ideal for kids to connect their gaming devices on long journeys.

The new Lexus 450h RX L is available in three equipment grades – SE, Luxury and Premier – and, according to the model grade you choose, features include a 12.3-inch multimedia and navigation screen, a bespoke 15-speaker Mark Levinson surround-sound system, power-operated tailgate with ‘no touch’ open and closing, heated and ventilated front seats with power adjustment and full LED lighting.

Safety is always a key consideration, especially with children on board, and the RX 450hL has succeeded in gaining a top five-star rating in independent Euro NCAP testing. Active safety features are provided by Lexus Safety System+. The car benefits from a Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and 10 airbags.

On-the-road prices from £50,995.
