The Ubbi diaper pail is made from powder coated steel which does not absorb odours – unlike most nappy bins you come across which are made from plastic. The lid has strong rubber seals and a sliding lid. The rubber seals stop any nasty smells from escaping, and the sliding lid serves 2 purposes – it keeps all the nasties locked away, and it has a childproof lock on it, which will stop small, inquisitive fingers from opening it up. The lock is simple for us adults though – just twist the locking button, then push and slide the lid to open. Drop the nappy in and slide the lid back into place with a click.
The problem with many nappy disposal systems often comes with the refills. They can be hard to find in supermarkets, and often cost a small fortune – sometimes almost as much as the bin itself. The beauty of the Ubbi bin is that you can just use your standard bin bags inside. Any large bag will fit – just open the bin cover, push the bag inside and fold over the edges as you would with a normal bin. Shut the cover, and you’re ready to go! It means that once the bag is full, you just open the cover again, lift it out and pop with your normal rubbish – no fiddling about trying to remove difficult refills.
The material of this diaper bin means it doesn’t really need any looking after either – a quick wipe down with a damp cloth or a baby wipe now and then will do the trick.
If you use cloth nappies, you will also find the Ubbi diaper pail useful. Unlike the traditional catridge systems, Ubbi sell a cloth pail liner priced at £9.99, which you can use in place of a bin bag. Drop your used nappies in and lock the lid to seal away any smells. When you have a wash load, just open up, lift out the cloth bag and pop in the washing machine!
You might think that once your baby is out of nappies the Ubbi pail will be of no use, but actually that is not the case. You can buy Ubbi decals to decorate the pail and there are lots of designs from bubbles and butterflies to sea creatures and vehicles. Style it up to suit any nursery or bedroom, and use it to store teddies, small toys or balls.
A nappy bin may not be something you think about during pregnancy, but once you start changing all those nappies, you may get sick and tired of traipsing outside to the bin countless times a day. This is where a nappy bin is so useful – keep it next to your changing table in the nursery and it will always be to hand.
I love how the Ubbi diaper pail looks too, it’s so sleek and doesn’t really look like a bin, and I would have no qualms about having one in the room – I don’t think anyone would know what it was for unless you told them! With lots of colours to choose from, and decals to customise with, there will be an Ubbi for you. I like the fact it is made from steel – longer lasting, better looking and great at keeping odours locked in. Add to this the rubber seals and lockable lid, and you can rest assured that no nasty whiffs will escape.
The fact it uses standard bin bags instead of expensive refills is a real winner for me, and does go some way to justifying the large initial outlay, as once you have an Ubbi pail, you will not need to buy anything further to go with it. The cost of buying and running the Ubbi diaper pail compared to a cartridge system, could save you as much as £445 over 2 children in nappies!!
I like that it is so adaptable and can be used for disposable or cloth nappies too.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend an Ubbi diaper pail to any parent. Yes, it’s a bit pricey initially, but it is so well made, long lasting and adaptable with cheaper running costs to the alternative, that I think it justifies its cost.
We give the Ubbi diaper pail 4.5 out of 5 stars
