It sounds great on paper, now let’s take a look at the real thing in our RECARO Young Sport Review:-

RECARO Young Sport - Installation in vehicle

Installing the RECARO Young Sport in the car is child’s play. To install as a group 1 seat, you just lift the flap of material on the seat back and feed the seatbelt through, before plugging it in as normal. Then feed the shoulder strap of the seatbelt through the red belt loop and pull tight.

It takes seconds to install, and seems very secure in the vehicle – it’s worth just giving it a bit of a wobble to make sure it is correctly secured. And that’s it! Ready to go.

To install as a group 2/3 booster is even simpler - sit your child in the seat, pull the seatbelt around the child as you would on yourself. In between the armrests as pictured on the seat and then feed the diagonal in to the guide under the headrest.

 

RECARO Young Sport - Safety and Security

Designed with the highest levels of safety and ergonomics in design, you can be assured that your child is safe and secure in this car seat. Complete with head and body side impact, you know that if the worst were to happen and you were to be involved in a side on crash, your child would have a good level of protection.

The deep headrest keeps the head in the correct position and seems to stop it from flopping forwards when your child is asleep.

For children from 9-18kg there is a strong 5 point safety harness with energy absorber which holds your little one firmly in the correct position.

For older children 15-36kg, the Young Sport can be used with the car seatbelt. The car seat is secured with the seatbelt as a normal Group 2,3 High back booster.

RECARO Young Sport - Day to day use

Alongside safety, we all look for a high level of comfort in a car seat. Children can sometimes be in them for a long time, and their comfort is second only to safety. As soon as you take this car seat out of the box you can see just how comfortable it will be. The padding is the thickest and deepest I have come across – it just screams softness. There is a removable insert cushion for smaller children – this makes the seat area smaller and a lot more cosy. Simply remove this to make a bigger area for bigger bottoms!

The super deep, winged headrest is ideal for those who still nap, as it stops the head from falling forwards, and the curving shape of the seat even offers a natural place to rest little arms. The 5 point harness has soft shoulder pads to prevent rubbing, and the ergonomic foam even allows air to circulate. This is ideal for hot summer days, as we all know just how sticky and sweaty these car seats can get!

 

Adjusting the harness is easy and stress free - as the headrest is adjusted to size, the harnesses are automatically moved into the correct position, giving your child optimum protection. The headrest can be adjusted 3 times for Group 1 and 2 further positions for Group 2,3 to ensure a correct fit - no matter how much your little person grows.

RECARO Young Sport Conclusion

This strikes me as the ultimate value for money option. Very reasonably priced and designed to last from 9 months right through to 12 years, you will not need to worry about buying another car seat for as long as your child will need one. Although it is good value, there is no compromise on safety or comfort, but as a rule, I do prefer ISOFIX.

The deep, wide padded seat offers a really comfortable place to travel and you can make it even cosier for tiny tots with the cushion insert. The harness for the little ones is energy absorbing and easily adjustable and older passengers get the bonus of somewhere to rest their arms and a headrest that grows with them. The breathable fabrics make for a non sticky ride, and if any snacks or drinks get spilt, you can just whip off the covers and pop them in the machine.

If you are after a car seat that will last and last, then this is well worth a look in my opinion. It just offers everything you could want in a car seat, and much more besides.
