If you’re looking for a high chair that can last you past the weaning and toddler stage, take a look at our latest high chair review - the phil&teds poppy.
We all know the phil&teds classic 3 wheeler pushchairs and innovative designs, but this time we are taking a closer look at their poppy™ high chair. The high chair with its futuristic design and bright colours, offers great adaptability as it can be used as a high chair from 6 months up until 3 years, and then a 'my chair' up to 5 years!
• 4 x Legs in two parts
• Seat
• Tray
• 5-point harness
The RRP of the phil&teds poppy™ is £84.99.
The phil&teds poppy™ is available in lime, bubblegum blue and cranberry.
The poppy™ seat is made from a soft aerocore, which can be removed easily from the plastic seat base for cleaning. You can then either give it a quick wipe or even put in to your dishwasher! As it comes off in one piece, there are no crevices for your little one to hide food in. It is made from a 'squidgy' and supportive material meaning your little on will be very comfortable, whether using it as a high chair when eating or watching TV in the 'my chair'.
The rest of the high chair seat shell and tray are made from white plastic, which is easy to wipe down and keep clean – with the tray even being dishwasher safe. A must for most mums! The four legs are made from powder coated aluminium, again wipe-proof should they need a clean.
Although the phil&teds poppy™ looks simple, it is designed with lots of little extra features that make it a great high chair that you can use up to around 5 years old, or 44lbs. It looks funky and modern with great bright colour choices that would fit in to most kitchens and dining rooms.
It is very easy to assemble as you just pop in the legs and you’re ready to use, no tools necessary. The 5-point harness is slightly more complicated to fit and use. It is a different harness than we have seen used on other high chairs and takes some getting used to. There is a 3-point harness around the waist of the child, with 2 straps that criss-cross around the back of the child, over the shoulders attaching to the front of the waist strap with clips. These clips can be very stiff and difficult to clip on to the rest of the harness. There is also a plastic passive harness, which comes out from the seat between the child’s legs. This keeps the child in place while you fasten the harness and prevents them from being able to slip out from under the tray. The tray also clips on to this.
The large tray wraps around the child helping to catch all food. It is easy to clean as there are no ridges or separate parts and the entire thing can be put in the dishwasher. To remove it from the seat, there is simple button underneath at the front, so no worry of your child taking it off themselves.
The seat itself is wide and large enough for a 5 year old to use in the 'my chair' stage. The aerocore liner is very squidgy and much comfier than it looks at first glances. It features a handle on the back of the seat making it easy to move around, especially as the whole high chair is very light at only 4kgs.
Below the seat, there is a white plastic footrest which attaches on by sliding on to the legs. It can only be used at one height but can be easily removed when not needed.
The high chair is very stable as the legs come out at quite an angle but this does create quite a large footprint. Although the poppy™ cannot be folded, you can easily remove the back legs and lean it in a cupboard or against the wall for easy storage. Or you can remove all of the legs meaning you only need a space large enough to store the seat and a few poles. It is a perfect height to be pulled up to the table to eat with the rest of the family, with or without the tray. Each of the four feet have rubber stoppers to prevent the chair from slipping on wood or tiled floors.
One of the best features of the phil&teds poppy™, is that you can remove the top part of the legs to make it sofa height, which is ideal for use after the high chair stage. This would even come in very handy if you don’t eat at the dinner table and want to feed your baby when sat in the living room, or have them playing messy activities in another room. For when your little one no longer needs to use the high chair part of the poppy™, the passive harness can be removed. It comes with a plastic part to put in the hole and is secured by just four screws. The 5-point harness can also be removed by removing the seat liner and unscrewing it. This is then taking it from high chair to 'my chair'. Older children will love having their own comfy chair to sit in. It is so easy to transform that families with a baby and older child can use the highchair or the 'my chair' – swapping every day if they wish!
The phil&teds poppy™ is a great high chair with plenty of useful features that most families will love. From the comfy aerocore seat, to the large wrap-around-tray. We loved the fact that the legs come in two-parts, allowing you to adjust the height of the high chair. Along with being able to remove the passive and 5-point harness, it prolongs the use of the chair to 5 years old, making the poppy™ great value for money. Not only do you get a great functional high chair for your baby, your older child will get the use of their own 'my chair'. Being able to put the seat liner and tray whole into the dishwasher means that you can keep it clean, no matter how messy weaning or playtime gets!
The only downside that we found was the unusual and tricky harness. If the shoulder straps were attached with an easier clip, or were part of the waist harness, it would make it a much simpler and easier task to do. Saying that, once it is done up, your little one will be safe and secure with the added bonus of the passive harness to keep them from slipping.
We give the phil&teds poppy™ 4.5 out of 5 stars
