One of the important milestones in your child's life is when they step out of the nappies and into knickers and pants. Yes potty training is a significant step for your little ones and choosing the right potty can really help with the process. We recently received the innovative LumiPotti here in the Mumii office, read on to find out just what makes this potty so special….
Small Ideas Ltd is a company founded in 2011 by two British mumpreneurs, Kerry Marriott and Rachael Forder. These successful ladies wanted to continue the day success of potty training into night time success too. They were keen to help children visit the potty/toilet at night safely and this is where the idea of LumiPotti stemmed from.

LumiPotti is made with anti-microbial plastic for extra cleanliness. Even though it looks/feels the same as other potties, it is actually quite unique. The anti-microbial plastic is custom formulated to help fight against harmful bacterias including MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella.
This night light is movement activated, it has a photosensitive light sensor and is portable.
The light needs 3 x AA batteries to operate and will turn off when no movement is detected after 60 seconds. There is no need for an on/off switch as the clever little thing does it all by itself.
To be able to use LumiPotti you first need to insert batteries into the night light. I have to admit I found removing the night light from the potty a little tricky, it was quite stiff and took a bit of effort to pull it out but this did seem to loosen up after a couple of uses.
Setting up the night light:
* Unscrew the cover and place 3 x AA batteries into it
* The light will flash 5 times to let you know it is working
* You then replace the cover and pop the night light back into the Lumipotti
LumiPotti itself is well designed, with a high back rest and steep bowl, it is comfortable for your little ones to sit on and the high front peak helps to minimise anything from escaping the potty.
One thing I always remember from potty training my older children is the accidents at night time. These have occurred either because they were too scared to get up in the dark or purely because they just couldn't find their way to the potty, LumiPotti eliminates this problem.
The night light has a built in 60 second auto fade and it has a dusk to dawn sensor meaning it will always come on in low light, not just in the pitch black of night. This makes it perfect for use during both the day and night and those nap times in-between.
When you clean LumiPotti, you need to remove the night light first, then empty and wash out before placing the night light back in. Although not the worst thing, it makes a simple task just a little bit more complicated.
My favourite part of LumiPotti is actually when the potty is no longer needed. The removable night light means that when your child is older, they can have the light next to their bed and they are then able to carry the light with them when they need to go to the toilet at night, giving them an extra bit of independence.
LumiPotti is a clever product. Although not the cheapest of potties on the market, the night light means that the potty grows with your child, helping them through every stage of potty training, right up to final independent stage of night time toilet training, so you are definitely getting your monies worth out of it. I struggle to find anything really negative to say about the LumiPotti, although I would love to see it available in a wider range of colours.
Overall LumiPotti has impressed me and I wish I had had it around for when my older children were potty training.
We give LumiPotti 4.5 out of 5 stars
