Hi! I'm Colette, Mum to three little people - Ben (4), Chloe (2) and Amy (fresh!)
We are new to reusable nappies, having used disposables entirely for Ben and Chloe. I'm looking forward to trying them out and seeing how they can fit into our busy lives and whether they will save us any money in the long run!

First Impressions
First Impressions - I actually gasped when I first felt just how soft the inside of the nappies felt - so much nicer than your average disposable! The idea of popping my newborn baby's bum in those was very appealing! The red nappies are a lovely colour but I'm not really very keen on the green or brown - so many reusable nappies are beautifully patterned so a plain brown is really disappointing! I'm looking forward to getting started with them.**************************
I've been really rubbish this week. I've felt a bit overwhelmed by the nappies and have just ended up sticking disposables on Amy - I keep looking at them on the side and thinking I really need to get a grip! Part of the problem is that they're not just "ready to wear" - they need pre washing or even soaking to make sure they are as absorbent as possible. I think if they were "ready to wear" I'd have stuck one on her by now. I think once I'm in the habit of using them they'll be ok but right now they feel like a massive effort.

I've finally washed the nappies and they are ready to wear - only now I've realised just how big & bulky they are and Amy's 0-3 month vests won't go anywhere near fastening.
She's almost outgrown them anyway so I need to get her the next size up. I guess clothes aren't really designed for big cloth bums! I need to make sure that when she's wearing the nappies I've got bigger clothes ready.
This week I've finally got round to trying a nappy on Amy only to find that I just couldn't get it to fit right. These nappies are billed as "birth to potty" - they have an array of poppers round the waist for the perfect fit and then you can tighten the elastic on the legs. As I was reading the instructions for this - which give suggested positions for weight ranges - I got really confused. Turns out if you turn the nappy completely inside out there's a strip of elastic with a button - much like you get on the adjustable waist of a pair of children's trousers.
I adjusted the elastic as per the guidelines for Amy's weight but they still didn't seem to fit very well at all. I think because she's long and slim they need altering a bit more. I'm not confident that they would hold anything at the moment - I need to get the elastic right or she needs to fill out! I'd have struggled to use them any younger that's for sure.

Although Amy is chief tester, because I've had problems getting a good fit so far and because they are designed to be a long term solution right through to potty training, I thought I'd try the nappies on Chloe this week.
Chloe is 2.5 years old and heading towards potty training now so wears pull ups on a daily basis. I told her I was going to put a special nappy on her to see if it fit - expecting a fuss but she was actually happy to wear it so it must have been comfortable for her (bearing in mind she has never had a fluffy bum). The fit was good round her legs and the poppers fastened around her waist with room to grow though I think I could probably have done them up a bit better as they seemed to bunch up. Chloe wore the nappy for about 2 hours the first time. I haven't sent her to Nursery in them & I'm not sure if I'd use them over night but I will keep using them during the day at home for her I think. (Maybe I'll risk a night wear next week!)
