In our first post about this year’s Baby Show we looked at some exciting stroller brands and Gumigem’s range of teething jewellery.
While we were at the show, we also checked out loads of other cool products that showed off the innovation and energy that’s in the baby sector right now.
One thing that really caught our eye was the Bednest - a bedside crib that allows mums and dads to sleep safely with their newborns.
The idea behind Bednest is that you can pull the crib right up next to the bed, leaving no gaps or dips your baby could fall into. It folds down totally flat for storage, and you can adjust the height to suit any bed. The height adjustment also makes it great for babies suffering from reflux or blocked noses.
What makes the product different from other bedside cribs? ‘Price is one of the main factors,’ says Bednest’s Kate Bedding. ‘So, we offer parents the chance to rent a bedside crib for six months for just £79. If you’re a parent whose baby is already here, and you fancy giving it a go, we can also offer a shorter three-month rent for just £69. That’s actually cheaper than many Moses baskets and stands these days, and makes for safe co-sleeping and easy night time feeding.’
After talking to Kate and the Bednest team we moved on to a stand that was attracting the interest of lots of babywearing fans. If babywearing is your thing, you probably know about Beco carriers, distributed in the UK by Slumberoo. We took a look at the new Soleil carrier, and spoke to Slumberoo’s Debi Smithson about babywearing and how to choose a carrier.
‘The idea behind the Soleil carrier is that it’s designed with ergonomics in mind,’ says Debi, ‘in other words, it supports both baby and parent. It conforms to all TICKS standards, and is both mum- and dad-friendly. You can use it to carry babies from birth to preschool on your front, back or hip, and it comes with a snap-on bag to carry your essentials when you’re out and about. It’s all about being truly hands-free.’
Debi also told us about how important it is to try out a carrier to ensure you have the most comfortable position and you’re happy with how to use it correctly. There were several very happy customers trying them out on the day!
