How do mums spend their daily lives in 2014?
The IPA TouchPoints5 data has revealed a new perspective into how people are spending their daily lives, how they use media, and just how mums spend their days doing. It highlights the extent to which mums do more household chores and childcare, which media and websites they are using, how they are spending their money, and how they are feeling throughout the day.
The main summaries are:
• Mums spend almost an hour more each day doing housework than dads do.
• Mums generally feel fine throughout the day, but their happiest time is 7.30pm – the time that most children are heading towards bed. Mums with little ones aged 0-3 tend to be at their happiest at 12.30pm – and are 15% happier than the average adult at this time.
• Mums with kids under 3 spend 33 minutes less time relaxing than the average adult.
• General alertness in adults peaks between 9-10am. However, mums are 18% less alert than the average adult.
• The time we feel most stressed? 4.30pm
• 74% of mums use social networking sites in an average week, compared to just 54% of all adults.
• Mums spend £11 more per week on food and groceries, with 61% of mums saying that price is their biggest consideration when choosing where to shop.
• So which stores do us mums visit the most? The top 5 are Boots, M&S, Primark, Argos and New Look.
Do these facts sum up an ‘average’ mum? Does this sound like you, or do you think that you are very different to the research? We would love to hear your thoughts!
