There are endless lists of essential items for your newborn, so Just Another Baby? have tried to edit these to the bare essentials to help save you time and money!!
Sleeping – bedside cots such as the Snuzpod and Babybay make great first beds for your new born baby and often provide better value for money than a moses basket as your baby can stay in them for longer.
Bedding – ideally you want three sets of cot sheets, one on the bed, one in the wash and a spare. Highly recommended are Swaddles and Baby sleeping bags. These come in different togs for different temperatures and are available in travel versions too.
Nappies - Check out cloth nappies as a cheaper, more environmental alternative to disposables. A set of Birth to Potty cloth nappies are £275.00 for a set which should last you for as long as your baby is in nappies, good for your pocket and your conscience!
Baby Carriers or Slings– An initial convenient alternative to a buggy. Baby carriers are not only comforting for your baby but allow you to have two hands free – great if your newborn has siblings already.
Comforters are also great for your little one to go to bed with. Many mums-to-be even sleep with them before the baby is born so that their smell can be transferred and baby will be soothed easily and quickly.
Baby Monitor – Standard audio models mean that you can hear your baby from another room. More advanced baby monitors show images or monitor breathing.
Pushchair – this needs to be suitable from birth so your baby can lie flat. Travel systems, which include car seats, are popular as you are able to attach a car seat to the pushchair chassis or seat.
Baby Changing Bags – Keep a changing bag stocked up with nappies, nappy sacks, wipes, a change of clothes, dummies, etc to help you get out of the door faster.
Bottles and Steriliser/sterilising fluid - keep a bottle or two handy in the early days even if you’re breast feeding as you can express and let others feed baby while you rest.
