The Lake District is full of treasures, and at Sally’s Cottages are a team of explorers, constantly looking for new places to go in the Lakes. So today is your lucky day, because Sally is sharing the top 5 places to visit in the Lake District. Whether you’re holidaying with your family or, just enjoying a break with your partner, these places will be perfect for you...
Keswick
This busy Lake District town is a great place to go with the family! There’s so much to do here from attractions, adventure centres, festivals, museums, parks, picnic spots and much more! My little ones love taking a trip on the Keswick Launches on Derwentwater. The lake is only a short stroll from the centre and you can enjoy the full leisurely cruise around the lake or hop on and off at different jetties to explore! If the weather turns, I like to take my kids to the King Kong Climbing Centre in Keswick. There’s an ice wall, climbing walls, indoor caving and an amazing play area for the tots to burn off some energy.
Newlands Valley
In the Newlands Valley, you’ll discover miles upon miles of remote fells and open countryside. This is one of the quietest valleys in all of Lakeland and the walking opportunities here are endless. You can enjoy a fantastic ten-mile trip around the valley’s main summits if you’re looking for a more challenging trek. The views are well worth the effort!
Rannerdale Valley
Head to the Rannerdale Valley in May or June and you will see a carpet of bluebells across the fells. According to local legend, the valley was one of the last seats of residence against the Norman conquerors too!
Loweswater
Loweswater is one of the most tranquil and beautiful of all the lakes and this is the perfect place to come and escape the crowds. Surrounded by quiet fells and forests you can really enjoy the simple things in life. Take a boat out across the lake, walk along the fells or visit the Kirkstile Inn and enjoy a pint of real ale. The pub has its own on-site brewery and you can sample six different Cumbrian ales.
Ullswater
Ullswater is the second largest lake and is thought to be one of the most beautiful too. The poet William Wordsworth was so taken with the lake’s magic that he used it as the inspiration for his famous poem Daffodils.
Sally’s Cottages has over 300 beautiful Lake District cottages and many of their properties are pet-friendly with open fires and walks from the door.
